John Wick 1 Summary

In "John Wick", the first movie of the action-thriller series, the titular character, played by Keanu Reeves, is a retired hitman who lost his wife to a terminal illness. After her death, he receives a puppy as a gift from her, but he is attacked and his puppy is killed by a group of Russian gangsters led by Iosef Tarasov (Alfie Allen). Iosef is the son of Wick's former employer, Viggo Tarasov (Michael Nyqvist), a powerful crime boss who operates in New York City. Enraged by the loss of his puppy, which was the last connection to his wife, Wick seeks vengeance against Iosef and his gang. He goes back to his old life as a hitman and starts hunting down Iosef and his men. As he makes his way through the criminal underworld, Wick attracts the attention of Viggo, who sees him as a threat and orders his men to kill him. Wick proves to be a formidable opponent, using his training and skills to take down his enemies one by one. He also receives some help from an old friend and fellow assassin, Marcus (Willem Dafoe), who has a personal stake in the conflict.

In the end, Wick confronts Iosef and kills him in a brutal fight. However, he is severely wounded and is forced to flee from Viggo's men. The movie ends with Wick on the run, setting the stage for the sequels.
